Description
Melton broadcloth is an exclusive fabric known for its solid, smooth and even surface. Melton undergo countless finishes such as repeated fullings, steam baths, nappings and is finally very closely sheared and dyed. The resulting finish is durable and very beautiful and reduces pill. Broadcloth is known since the 700s, became common in the 1300s and in the Middle Ages it was one of Europe’s most important commodities. This fabric fits most garments like hoses, pants, kirtles, bodices, coats and doublés. Weaved in twill (2/1) and therefore extra suitable for hoses.
The color was produced until the mid-1800s with woad and for example vau or kinnikinnick. This colour is based on a plant dyed sample by Nusse Mellgren.
