S14 Livery badge, King Richard III boar

Description

The white boar badge was used by the household and followers of Richard between the early 1470s and 1485. The ‘bore’ may have been an anagram of the word ‘Ebor’ – the latin name for York. Wardrobe accounts for 1483 show that thousands of boar badges were produced for Richard’s coronation.
