S28a Rose Badge (Peridot)

Description

As a stylised depiction of a rose this badge is capable of many interpretations. The rose, as a symbol of purity and virginity was a primary symbol of the Virgin Mary. However, this badge is most likely to have found use as a lover’s token, the rose through its association with earthly passion, beauty and happiness being a common amatory motif. The original from which this badge is copied still retained its decorative glass stone.
