Description

The oilcloth fabric is a tightly woven stiff cotton fabric treated with wax, and has a water repellent surface.
Suitable for rain clothes and bags.

The extremely weather-resistant material became common during the early 19th century in England, when it was mainly worn by sailors and fishermen.

The fabric can bleed, so it is recommended to line the fabric if it is to be made into modern clothing, or if you do not want to risk discoloration of the underlaying fabric. Fabrics can also “sweat” a little in high temperatures due to the wax.
